Is Software Really "Soft"?
The term "software" stems from the "soft" floppy disks (51/4") that were used in the 1980's before "hard disks" and "hard drives" came out. They were called "floppy" disks because they were literally soft, bendable, and floppy. Before the advent of hard drives, all software was delivered via soft, or "floppy" disk.
