The Best Service Overall: SugarSync

SugarSync logoWe are confident in predicting that you will be happy with both SugarSync and Dropbox. Our key takeaways when comparing the two services:

  • SugarSync allows users to back up and sync ANY folder on your computer. Dropbox has a designated folder that it backs up and syncs. This is the key difference between the two services. SugarSync allows you to select any file and folder on your computer to sync, whereas Dropbox will only sync the Dropbox folder.
  • SugarSync’s Manager will monitor the status of all files and manage files. Dropbox does not offer a manager.
  • SugarSync offers some apps that Dropbox does not, including Windows Mobile, Symbian and Kindle Fire.
  • SugarSync does not put any restrictions on file size.
  • As far as pricing goes, users looking for 100 or 200 GB plans will save $5 a month with Dropbox. If you are looking for a lot of space though, the 500 GB plan with SugarSync is $10 less a month over Dropbox.

These reasons above are why we named SugarSync our First Place Winner for Best Online Backup. So while we feel Dropbox offers just about every feature a user could need, SugarSync’s Manager and the ability to back up and sync any folder makes them our clear winner.
