Drinking a cup of coffee is a great way to explore other regions of the world without leaving your home. The smell of beans and the rich taste of the various types of roasts transport your senses while keeping you caffeinated.
Whether you’re too busy to go to the store, you like getting stuff in the mail or need a gift for someone, subscription boxes are a great solution. Coffee monthly subscriptions are fairly new but are quickly becoming a hot item (no pun intended) for both java lovers and gift-giving (for your boss, in-laws, grandparents, etc.).
Plus, many of these craft coffee subscriptions roast the beans themselves and ship them out within 48 hours, making the coffee fresher than the Folgers or Dunkin Donuts you’ve got in your cupboard now.
Fun Fact About Coffee
Before we dive into the best coffee subscription, thought you might enjoy this fun fact. Wondering what coffee beans look like before they are roasted? Coffee beans are found inside the red coffee berries produced by the coffee tree (see photo to the right) and before they are roasted they are the color of peanuts. Now time to get brewing…onto the top picks.
Craft Coffee Review
#1
Craft Coffee is our pick for best coffee of the month club subscription. Choose your go-to brand that you pick up at the grocery store and Craft Coffee will suggest a similar style coffee for you to try.
Craft Coffee ships its coffee to you between 24 and 72 hours after roasting. Given their short shipping times, this means that your coffee is delivered to your doorstep five to seven days after roasting on average.
Although you can have Craft Coffee grind the beans for you, they recommend that you purchase whole bean coffee, so it stays fresher. You can select how often you want the java delivered. Each blend comes in a 12-ounce bag, or you can select the three coffee sampler, which includes three bags of coffee, four ounces each.
One thing that makes Craft Coffee the best coffee club subscription is their Price-Match Promise, which means they price their coffee within $0.08/ounce of the price you pay for your “regular” coffee at the grocery store, so you’re paying for fresh coffee without paying double the price for it. Craft Coffee also has coffee gift baskets that you can send to that coffee lover in your life.

Bean Box Review
#2
Bean Box is our runner up for best coffee of the month club. Bean Box coffee is from 21 of Seattle’s top-rated, award-winning roasters.
Bean Box is shipped within 48 hours of roasting. You can select your style based on the roast you like (light to dark), origins, and blends/single origin coffees.
They only sell whole bean coffee, so you’ll need to make sure you have a grinder. Many of their sample boxes include four 1.8 ounce bags of coffee, which makes about 16 cups of coffee, depending on the strength you make it.

Blue Bottle | Drift Away | Misto Box
Blue Bottle Coffee Review
Your subscription from Blue Bottle Coffee can be as often as once a week or as infrequent as once per month.
They send coffee according to the natural harvest cycle, so it is the freshest when it’s delivered to your door. Blue Bottle offers a free trial where they’ll send you a two-ounce bag of their most recently roasted batch of coffee.
This isn’t something offered by others, but note that ten days after the trial bag ships, they will start you on a 12-ounce shipment bi-weekly. So if you don’t want this, you’ll need to adjust it or cancel.

Drift Away Review
Drift Away is smaller scale than some of the other coffee subscription companies we’ve reviewed. Drift Away offers four different coffees each month that vary between four roasts: a fruity light roast, classic medium roast, balanced medium roast and bold dark roast.
They roast the beans themselves, then ship to you within 12 hours. All coffee is shipped whole bean to keep it from going stale.
If you choose to do a subscription, the first delivery is a tasting kit, which consists of four 2 ounce bags. You can choose to have a shipment every week, bi-weekly or once a month.

Misto Box Review
As seen on Shark Tank (where the founders secured a deal with Mark Cuban), Misto Box guarantees you’ll like your coffee or they’ll replace it for free.
Each bag contains 12 ounces of whole bean coffee. If you’re unsure about what type of style you like, they recommend you try the Discover Box. The Discovery Box includes four 3 ounce bags of coffee: light roast single origin, medium roast single origin, medium/dark roast blend and dark roast blend.
You can have your java shipped every week, two weeks, three weeks or four weeks. Unfortunately, we can’t find any information about how long after the coffee is roasted it is shipped.
