How Do I Cancel A Subscription On Paypal? For Business And Personal Accounts

When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn a commission. Here’s how it works.

This has to be one of the most infuriating things when it comes to Paypal. The location of your subscriptions, also referred to as ‘recurring subscriptions’ or ‘automatic payments’ seems to change almost monthly. Well, we’re here to take away the headache and make it an effort to keep this page up to date with the latest location of this little devil of a setting.

Where To Find Paypal Subscriptions

This will differ depending on whether you are logged into your personal or business account, so I’ll cover both. For whatever reason, it’s easier to find your subscriptions in the business account in my opinion, though be sure to check both the automatic payments as well as “my preapproved” payments pages as outlined below.

Instructions For Business Paypal Account

After logging in, in the top-right corner browse over your name. This will bring up a drop-down menu. Click on the “Account Settings” menu item:

This will take you to your account settings page. From here, you’ll want to click on “Website payments” in the left-hand column under “Products & Services:”

This will bring up the “Website payment” options to the right. Click on the “Update” button next to the first item, “My automatic payments:”

Clicking ‘Update’ on this screen will take you to your Paypal recurring payments dashboard.

Next you’ll see an entirely new page called the “recurring payments dashboard.”

Recurring Payments Dashboard

Use this page to manage the following types of payments from your customers:

  • Subscriptions
  • Automatically billed payments
  • Installment plan payments

You can manage the automatic payments you have with other merchants from your “My preapproved payments” page.

You’ll see an overview of your subscriptions that are active, new, have outstanding payments, are suspended, or canceled. Click on a corresponding link (such as “active”) to see those subscriptions. From there, click on the subscription name followed by “Cancel” to cancel the subscription.

Instructions For Personal Paypal Account

The location, as of the time of this writing, is as follows: after logging in, in the top-right corner of your dashboard, click on the gear icon:

Account Settings

Clicking on this gear icon will reveal a sub-menu.

That will pop-up a sub-menu, from which you’ll want to select “Payments”:

Select the ‘Payments’ option from the sub-menu.

From here, you’ll want to click on “Manage automatic payments”:

Manage Automatic Payments

Click the “manage automatic payments” button to see a list of all your active subscriptions.

This will take you to a listing of your automatic payments where you can filter by active payments, as well as manage your funding sources. Look for the logo of the subscription you’d like to modify, and click on it.

In this example, we would like to cancel recurring payments for our Sling TV subscription, so we are going to click on the “Sling TV LLC” logo:

Click on the logo of the subscription you wish to cancel, in our example Sling TV.

That will take you to a screen highlighting details for the subscription, which includes:

  • Status (ACTIVE or INACTIVE) along with a “Cancel” button as shown below.

  • Payment method – you can adjust your payment method here, for example if you’d rather this subscription draw from a credit card vs bank account.
  • Start date – the date the subscription started.
  • Billing details
    • Billing ID – a unique ID for this subscription that can come in handy when you need to reference this subscription for proof of payment, dispute resolutions, etc.
    • Total billed amount – the total dollar amount you’ve spent on this subscription over its lifetime.
  • Merchant details
    • Description – a more detailed description of the product or service you’re subscribed to. In our example it provided additional details on our Sling TV subscription: My SlingTV Product(s): Sling Blue, DVR PLUS, Sports Extra.
    • Contact information – merchant contact information including email address, website, and phone number.

I hope this article was helpful! We’ll do our best to keep this updated as this interface changes.
