SimpliSafe offers one of the “simplest” home security solutions. Customers love that it’s easy to install and has one of the lowest monthly professional monitoring fees on the market. But at the same time, simple doesn’t mean it’s the best option for some, and their technology is less current and sophisticated than some of their competitors. 

Whatever your reason for wanting to cancel SimpliSafe monitoring, you want to know how to cancel it as smoothly as possible. I take you through a step-by-step guide on how to cancel a SimpliSafe subscription. Although SimpliSafe prides itself on easy cancelation, is it as simple as they make out? Does SimpliSafe Have Contracts?

One of SimpliSafe’s appeals is that it does not require its customers to sign up for a contract. You can cancel anytime, and there are no hidden fees or cancellation charges. However, as you pay for a monthly subscription, you won’t receive a refund for the remainder of the month if you cancel.

How Do I Cancel SimpliSafe’s Services?

There is only one way to cancel SimpliSafe’s services. You must call their customer support team at 1-888-783-8441. They are available every day of the year between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. (EST). You must have your Safe Word ready to confirm you own the security system. If not, they won’t be able to cancel your account. 

Unlike other security camera companies, you don’t have the choice to cancel via email or the app. SimpliSafe states that this is so they can discuss your options and potentially find you a better solution. They also need to discuss your reasons for canceling for their business needs and improvement data. It also allows them to authenticate the user to prevent fraudulent cancelations. 

However, many companies offer ways to verify you as the owner via email or app to effect your cancellation request. I find this disappointing for a company that prides itself on providing simple tech for everyone. This feeling is mirrored in reviews, with some users claiming they cannot call for personal reasons or have a disability that prevents them from speaking with an advisor, for example.

Where Can You Find The SimpliSafe Safe Word?

To cancel, you need your Safe Word, which you created when you set up monitoring for your system. If you have forgotten your Safe Word, there are two ways to view it.

Using the SimpliSafe Mobile App

  1. Head to “My System” at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Next, select “Location Settings” from the menu.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap “Safeword” to reveal your Safe Word.

Using the SimpliSafe Web App

  1. Log in to your account on webapp.simplisafe.com.
  2. Go to the menu on the left side of the screen and select “Monitoring.”
  3. Under Safeword on the right-hand side of the screen, tap “View” to reveal your Safe Word.

How To Change Your Safe Word

If you need to change your Safe Word, you can do this using the SimpliSafe mobile app. Follow these steps:

  1. Select the “My System” option at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Next, select “Location Settings” from the menu.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap the line that says “Safeword.”
  4. Enter your new Safe Word. Remember to click “Save” on the top right side of the screen.

Are You Moving?

If you’re moving, you don’t have to cancel your SimpliSafe subscription. Contact SimpliSafe at 888-692-0229 and request a Mover’s Kit. This kit includes packaging for your sensors and accessories, new adhesives, and more. Their website doesn’t state whether this is free or how much it costs. When it comes to the day of moving, follow these steps:

  1. Disarm Your System. Set the keypad or app to “OFF” mode. Then, unplug the base station and use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the battery compartment. Once that’s open, remove a single battery.
  2. Remove The Devices. With a firm grip, remove the adhesive strips from the wall. They should come away easily. If not, try rotating the device or using dental floss to loosen it. 
  3. Pack And Label Your Devices. Using the Mover’s Kit, pack up the sensors using the supplied materials and label them to make setting up in your new home smoother. 
  4. Update Your Monitoring Address. On the SimpliSafe app, head to “My System”. iOS users should select “Your Location” at the top of the menu, and Android users should choose “Location Settings.” Once in, update your new address. 

Leaving SimpliSafe Devices Behind

If you’re moving but not taking your SimpliSafe devices, you need to remove them from your system. To do this, open the SimpliSafe app and follow these simple steps:

  1. Select “My System” from the navigation menu.
  2. Choose “Device Settings” or “Camera Settings”.
  3. Select the device you want to leave behind.
  4. Scroll to the bottom and select “Remove Device” or “Remove Camera.”

You’ll need to do this for every camera, sensor, or smart lock you want to separate from your system.

How To Cancel SimpliSafe Without Calling?

Unfortunately, you cannot cancel Simplisafe without calling. You can upgrade your subscription on the SimpliSafe app, but you cannot downgrade, suspend, or cancel your account on the app. 

Does SimpliSafe Charge A Cancellation Fee?

No, SimpliSafe does not charge a cancellation fee. But you won’t receive a refund for the remainder of the month, even if you are not using it.

Do You Have To Return SimpliSafe Equipment?

No, you do not have to return any SimpliSafe equipment. All SimpliSafe equipment is purchased upfront, which means you own it. However, if you want a full refund, send your equipment back within the first 60 days, and you’ll receive a full refund. Contact the support team, who can create a prepaid shipping label for you to send it back.
